Making the Measurement

Once the mires are properly set, the 
dioptric power (and/or radii) of the 
cornea can be read from the 
power drums.  The axes are read from 
the scale on the body of the instrument 
beyond the power drums.

The power in each meridian should be 
read to the nearest 0.12 D. and axis 
to the nearest 1 degree.

The photograph shows a horizontal 
power of 43.00 D. at 15 degrees.
